If you like carrots but are sick of just boiling them, James Martin has got just the recipe for you.
Foodie Corre Larkin, who posts on TikTok as @cocolarkincooks, and shares the ‘recipes of her life’ claimed that they were “arguably the best carrots” she’d ever eaten.
“I don’t think I’ll ever eat carrots the same again,” she said, after explaining the unusual method of cooking the vegetable.
First, she peeled the carrots and chopped the top and bottom ends off.
He described it as a “kind of carrot vichy,” and she said you want to try and use “thicker” carrots.
After you’ve peeled them, cut them into large chunks before popping them into a pan of cool water, which you’re going to bring to a boil.
You need to add “equal amounts of salt and sugar and a big nob of butter.”
Then, you should “throw in the secret ingredient – some star anise.”
“Boil them until they’re tender, but not falling apart, then you’re gonna carefully remove them,” she said.
She tried the carrots and gave them high praise saying they’re the “best carrots” she’s ever had, saying she “genuinely means it.”
Another social media user chimed in with their own tip, sharing: “If you use smaller carrots in a frying pan and just enough water to cover them, the water evaporates and leaves a sticky glaze on the carrots which is 10x better in my opinion.”
“What would you pair it with?” someone asked. She replied: “I would make it for a roast dinner, as a side for any slow-cooked meat.”
Another said: “Wow I thought for sure there was going to be a 2nd, 3rd and 4th step.”
Corre said it was the “simplest” way to prepare carrots, and they were so tasty.
Someone else praised: “I’ve cooked a lot of the recipes you have shown us and they are wonderful. These were absolutely delicious. You know you’re winning when you have teenagers in Massachusetts eating Lancashire hot pot.”
